Last year, I covered Sylven Landesberg's announcement of his college selection for the Torch.
He was the big New York City recruit at the time; a 6-6, 200-pound shooting guard ranked among the Top-50 seniors in the country and St. John's was on a short list of his potential colleges.

And we're back. Back at school, back at work, and back stressing out about life. And to add to it all, it's an election year, and we are constantly bombarded with politics. It is impossible to escape, but it is nice to be here at the 'Berg, where everyone, ahem, almost everyone, seems to have similar political views, and that is a good thing, isn't it?
Or maybe, it's all too similar.

I guess I got lucky. After receiving space for a column in The Weekly, I had to find something worth writing about, and it fell right into my lap. On August 29th, John McCain presented Sarah Palin as his running for Vice-Presidential nominee. I was ecstatic with his selection, as I was hoping she was going to get the nod for several weeks, but assumed it was going to Romney.

On May 12, 2008, federal immigration officials raided the Agriprocessors meat processing plant in Postville, Iowa. The investigation alleged many human rights violations, in particular employment of hundreds of illegal immigrants. This raises questions about a plant that has already been involved in animal rights and pollution controversies in 2004 and 2006 respectively.

Although I was only a few years old, I can still remember the day my dad came home with a Nintendo Entertainment System.
As time progressed, the NES would dominate my life and the lives of millions of kids worldwide, sparking what is today one of the most financially successful industries worldwide.

Since a student's income can barely keep pace with an agile inflation, curbing expenses seems the only sensible way to survive in the short term.

The Madden Jinx wins again
Every year since the popular football game, Madden, was released EA Sports has put an athlete on the cover. That athlete always seems to experience either an injury or a sub-par year.

Students returning to St. John's this fall can look forward to one very special welcome-back surprise. No, not sweatshirts or T-shirts, not lunchboxes or umbrellas. And no, not a new St. John's laptop battery.
Instead, students will be treated to a much bigger surprise: a crippled library, with only one floor open to the public.

On Aug. 26, pre-initiation testing of the Large Hadron Collider wrapped up without incident. This instrument is used to study the smallest known particles deep within atoms. Scientists are pinning their hopes to the possibility that as this machine forces speeding matter to turn into energy, it will then condense back into new undiscovered particles in the collisions.
