On an overcast day in Newtown, the Bucks soccer team brought out the sunshine by defeating Delaware County College to notch their second home victory of the year and move them one step closer to the playoff pack.

Twenty five minutes into the first half, the ball started to flow from the Bucks defense to the midfield. Sean Sullivan passed well and opened the center of the field.

Then they struck.

After a solid offensive press from the entire Bucks team, striker Matt Rispo found himself at the top of the eighteen yard line with a Delaware defender between him and the goal. He dodged right and drove the ball low and hard to the left corner for the team's second goal.

The score gave Bucks a 2-1 halftime lead which they place in the hands on their defense.

Bucked used conservative offense and effective defense to hold their lead in the second frame. They also got quick-clearing plays off the feet of defenders Dan Tenaglia and Brandon Zaborowski.

Delaware had their chances in the second half, however. On one occasion, a ball was surely bound for the back of the net, but was denied with a flash of Hainsworth's left hand.

The game ended in a final score of 2-1, with Bucks jogging off the soft field with their heads up.

"I am happy for the win and think as a team we played a tough game," said Coach Kingsley Donaldson. "If we want to jump into the top half of the conference, we need another win at Lehigh on Friday."

Rispo had originally put the Centurions on the scoreboard about ten minutes into the first half on a driving shot past the outstretched arms of the opposing goalkeeper.

From then on Delaware launched an offensive assault that resulted in a floating goal from the left side that caught goalkeeper Ed Hainsworth off guard.

Delaware was quick in the front side of play throughout the game. But with added speed on the right side from Augustine Ballah, Bucks was able to effectively counter on defense.

And part of their effort came being a man down after Ballah was issued a red card for retaliation.

"This was a tough game and a good win for us because it keeps us right in the playoff hunt," said Hainsworth.
